Term commitment
Why we ask for a full term
Every class builds on the one before it. To make sure our mini-artists are having time to experiment and learn each skill, projects run over 2-3 weeks. We are unable to hold a spot for a casual booking. Book the term, and if you miss a week, tell us and we will sort a catch-up or a credit.
The detail
What happens in each class
Art Techniques Read more
A different medium every few weeks, so your mini-artist gets to find out what they actually love. Over a term they might work with oil pastel, chalk pastel, acrylics, watercolour, watercolour pencils, four kinds of clay, wood, canvas, textiles, inks, masking fluid and graphite. This is the class to start with if your kid has never done a proper art class and you do not want to guess.
Pottery & Sculpture Read more
The whole process, from a lump of clay to a glazed piece they can drink out of. Throughout each term mini-artists may experiment with slab building, pinch potting, coiling, carving, imprint texturing, transfer paper design, sgraffito, scoring and slipping and glazing, as well as learn about the firing process. Pieces take about eight weeks to be completely finished due to the firing process.
Street Art Read more
Taught by street artist Gilly AfterDark. Layered acrylics and watercolour, Posca marker work, painting on canvas, wood, paper and large-scale surfaces. Mini-artists will build up graffiti-style texture, work at a size most kids never get to try. Ages 5–12 on Friday, 8–15 on Saturday.
Drawing & Manga Read more
For the mini-artist who has a head full of characters. Proportioning by sight without a grid, coloured pencil and graphite technique, light and shadow, perspective, negative space, ink and pen line work. For the manga and anime side: full body proportion, facial expression, action poses, character design, inking, hatching and shading.
Please note that a finished graphite drawing can take hours, sometimes up to 10 to 15 hours, to complete. Our lessons help students develop their skills and practise techniques so they can more confidently draw and create finished pieces at home. Feedback from students has shown it is more valuable to practise a wide variety of skills than to finish one drawing, so students may not create complete drawings during lesson time.
Tiny Artists Read more
Built for kids aged 4 to 8 who do not love sitting still. Sculptural, expressive, kinetic and sensory projects every week. Watercolour, collage, tempera, air-dry clay, marshmallow clay and a pile of textured, interactive, colourful materials. They will pick up colours, shapes and the colour wheel, and start playing with backgrounds, foregrounds, characters and storytelling.
Homeschool Science & Art Read more
What happens to clay when it bakes? Why does watercolour creep across wet paper? How does a footprint end up in stone?
Over six weeks, your mini-artist answers real science questions with their hands. Each session pairs a science concept with an art technique, so they’re predicting, testing and noticing what changes, just like a scientist would. And every week they take home something they made.
What they’ll make and learn:
- Polymer clay sculptures, exploring reversible and irreversible changes
- Watercolour paintings, watching absorption and evaporation happen on the page
- An acrylic reef painting, learning about marine creatures and where they live
- Abstract art made with magnets, seeing how magnetic forces push and pull
- A fossil diorama with real sand and tiny animal footprints, showing how sedimentary layers form and fossils are made
It’s science content your child will actually remember, because they built it. Along the way they get practice at the stuff that lasts: curiosity, patience when an experiment doesn’t go to plan, and the confidence to try again.
Portfolio Class (by application) Read more
For teens ready to work independently on their own projects. They will turn ideas into finished pieces, plan composition, experiment with gouache, watercolour, acrylics, sculptural media, graphite, charcoal and ink, choose their own surfaces and tools, and build a portfolio that holds up.
This one is by application. Your teen needs prior experience and needs to be able to generate their own ideas. Submit a request at checkout and we will review it before taking payment.
Pick a day that suits your week.
Term 4 runs 6 October to 11 December. Join late and pay pro rata for the classes that are left.
