Weekly Kids Art Classes

Saturday Drop in Sessions – Currumbin Studio
Our Saturday morning sessions are perfect for those mini-artists who like to experiment with their own ideas. Each Saturday we will have a different medium available for your mini-artist to make into their own project. One of our artists will be available for any questions or help that your mini-artist may need, and students will have access to all our reference material. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a step by step art class – students will work autonomously on their own projects!  Price includes a 20x25cm canvas board, upgrades to larger canvasses available for a few extra dollars. No booking needed!

Art Techniques – Currumbin Studio
Projects running over two to three weeks, students will be walked through a project step by step and given their own creative licence to personalise their pieces. Aimed at letting kids discover a range of media, tools and techniques including surrealism, abstract art, watercolour pencil and paint, acrylics and oil pastels.

Sketch Club – Currumbin Studio
Bring your sketch books and test out different techniques for sketching and life drawing. A mixture of technical instruction on sketching technique and fun sketching projects.  Throughout the term students will be instructed in how to use chalk pencils, charcoal, graphite, pastels, blending stubs, fixative sprays and will investigate different weights of graphite pencils and paper, as well as technical aspects such as rulerwork, light/reflection observation, shading and shadow placement, perspective drawing, graphite lifting and blending and some rendering techniques. This is a session based on increasing skillset with sketching and drawing, as such we will have a max 7 students in this class to allow enough one on one attention to each individual.

Perfect for students trying to build a portfolio for art excellence program submissions.

Expression Session – Currumbin Studio
Classes aimed at letting mini-artists explore a range of media and tools including acrylic paint, watercolours, oil and chalk pastels, clay and pencil/charcoal. With projects running over 1, 2, or three weeks Sacha will introduce mini-artists to a technique and medium and students will create their own masterpieces.

Homeschool Art Classes – In studio
An 8 week term of art classes running inline with QLD visual arts curriculum. Students will experience a range of media, including graphite, clay, acrylic and watercolour paints. They will gain knowledge of pencil weights, paper weights and different types of paper through a variety of projects including sculpture, sketching, canvas painting and perspective drawing. Contact me for entire term lesson plan and applicable curruculum outcomes.

Preschool Classes – In studio
A class designed for preschoolers to discover colours and shapes and experiment with mess, paints, and glue. Our preschool artist will take mini-artists through activities aimed at developing fine motor skills and practicing active imagination.

Comic Book Club – Currumbin Studio
For the first time ever street artist GillyAfterDark is sharing his creative secrets! Let him walk your mini-artist through creating their own comic book story. Mini-artists will create characters with identifiable personality traits, illustration panels with backstory and a front cover for their comic book. Students will experiment with Gilly’s signature layering techniques, posca paint markers, watercolour paints and will be coached through the process of turning ideas into identifiable pieces of character art.

This class will be limited to 6 students.

Manga Drawing Workshops – Currumbin Studio
With a focus on sketching, full body proportioning, facial expressions and creating movement in drawings, mini-artists will develop their sketching skills with Manga style techniques and various drawing exercises. Classes will be limited to 6 students per session to allow GillyAfterDark to give each student one on one attention so your mini-artist will get the most out of their session.

FULL TERM PAYMENTS

If your mini-artist misses a class we are happy to offer a catch up session on any Saturday after the missed class.
If your child can not attend their catch up session on a Saturday, credit can be offered for classes if you contact us with at least 3 hours notice of your mini-artist not attending class. Credit can be accrued throughout the term to a maximum value of 2 classes per student. Credit can be used for the following term or during school holidays. If you do not contact us we will be unable to assign credit to your account.

As of Jan 2018 we will no longer be able to reserve a space for casual students on a term long basis. Casual participants can book on the day they wish to attend by contacting us on 0400 382 617 and pay in cash or by bank transfer before the session. Please be aware that casual bookings are subject to availability and our after school classes are usually very full!!
